Who are we?
We are Destination Education Group! Set up in August 2015 as a subsidiary of Smart Development Solutions, Destination Education launched as a separate entity to concentrate on providing more subsidised courses to young people and their parents across the United Kingdom.
What’s a CIC? The technical bit…
We are a ‘Community Interest Company’, essentially a social enterprise, which runs on a not-for-profit basis. We operate for the benefit of the community of young people throughout the United Kingdom, and their parents.
Destination Education Group CIC has a ‘Limited by Guarantee’ form. This was chosen as the company’s articles are protected by an asset-lock, whereby if the company were to be sold then any financial gain from the assets would be given to a charity of our choice, namely ‘Barnado’s’ This is an aspect the directors felt core to their social enterprise beliefs.
Only one of the Smart Development Solutions directors sits on the board of Destination Education Group CIC.
Meet the team…
Lucy Wood – Schools Director

A business woman and education professional, with over 14 years’ experience, Lucy joined the team in April 2015 to drive forward the creation of Destination Education Group. Having worked in a variety of roles throughout the world and run her own retail business for 8 years, Lucy brings a wealth of teaching, governance, fundraising and legal knowledge to our social enterprise.

She has a flair for communicating with young people and a passion for guiding them to achieve their potential in life. She is excited about Destination Education’s future and the young people’s chances it will improve.

Julie Holden – Managing Director

With over 20 years’ experience in both the education and financial services sectors, Julie founded Smart Development Solutions in 2009 and through this lead her team to successfully deliver their suite of ‘My’ Programmes, bespoke workshops and CMI qualifications in schools across the country and in Northern Ireland.

With a passion to make a difference to thousands of young students, the launch of Destination Education Group takes this to the next level, giving a greater opportunity to deliver more programmes to more schools and truly help those young students to realise their dreams.

Steve Collinson – Non Executive Director

Steve joined Destination Education in 2016 and brought with him a wealth of experience in training, coaching and personal development. He has run his own training company for a number of years and worked with some of the country’s largest businesses, helping their people develop the skills for success. Steve has a strong background in the corporate world and he’s excited to have the opportunity to help young people bridge the skills gap between school and employment.

Why only 3?
We are purposely very lean in terms of our headcount: every penny counts towards the work that we do with young people. To make this work most effectively, we have a pool of freelance training associates who support us and deliver our workshops. Each of these associates undergoes full training on our programmes, including appropriate Safeguarding and Health & Safety instruction, and passes through our in-house assessment.
What do we do?
We offer a suite of funky, innovative, professionally delivered programmes that support young people to improve their employability skills and focus on their future. We also offer bespoke programmes and CMI qualifications.
What makes us different?
  • All of our programmes are delivered by trained professionals.
  • Our programmes are activity based with video clips and music and our latest materials are designed specifically for the young student market.
  • “Young people and parents love our workshops. Our feedback, from 1969 participants, tells us we are achieving a 97.1% success rate!
